AI-assisted surveillance meets the evidence standard question
Automated detection tools have become routine in casino surveillance rooms. The unresolved question is evidentiary: what weight does a machine-generated alert carry when an incident is escalated to a regulator or a court?

- Detection tools are widely deployed; evidentiary frameworks lag behind.
- Operators are retaining human review as the decision point.
- Audit trails and model change logs are becoming procurement requirements.
- False-positive management is the dominant operational cost.
Alerts are not conclusions
Every operator we spoke to described the same workflow: the system surfaces a candidate event, a trained officer reviews it, and the officer's assessment — not the alert — becomes the record.
That design is deliberate. It keeps accountability with a person and keeps the documentation defensible.

The audit trail becomes the product
Procurement conversations increasingly focus on logging: which model version produced an alert, what footage was retained, who reviewed it and when. Vendors that cannot answer those questions cleanly are struggling in tender processes.
Cost sits in the false positives
Sensitivity settings determine staffing. A system tuned too aggressively generates review workload that no surveillance roster can absorb; tuned too conservatively, it undermines the reason for buying it.
“We buy detection to shorten the search, not to replace the judgement.”
